John Lima was last seen leaving his girlfriend’s home in Chelsea, Massachusetts, at 1:30 a.m. on October 28, 2005. Lima, a 26-year-old construction worker, was reported to have gone to his own residence near the intersection of South Main Street and River Street in Middleton, Massachusetts.
The Disappearance
Lima stayed in a basement apartment at his parents’ house. Around 2:00 a.m. on October 28, 2005, his mother heard a car door close and noticed Lima’s vehicle parked in the driveway, believing he had arrived home. However, no one witnessed him entering the residence.
Lima’s parents realized he wasn’t home at 7:00 a.m. Adding to the mystery, they discovered his wallet, keys, and cigarettes on his unslept-in bed. His shoes were spotted on the doormat right inside the garage. Moreover, a small window in Lima’s living room was wide open despite the cold weather, with its screen pushed out from the inside.
Based to the evidence, Lima’s parents believe he climbed out the window to avoid waking the family by activating the backyard’s motion-detecting lights. Lima’s cellular phone battery died just after 2:00 a.m. on the day he vanished, leading officials to believe the phone was destroyed.
Lima wasn’t carrying any cash or credit cards with him when he disappeared. Despite his history of drug abuse, failing out of high school, and serving time in jail, Lima’s loved ones stated that by October 2005, he had straightened out his life and appeared happy.
The Investigation
Lima’s family and local police launched a thorough search after he was discovered missing. Authorities searched the neighborhood and beyond for any clues to his unexpected disappearance.
The investigation included searching into local hospitals, shelters, and even locations Lima was known to frequent. Despite their best attempts, no substantial evidence has come to light to explain why Lima disappeared or where he might be.

He also has a faint scar across the top of his nose from a prior fracture and is known to smoke cigarettes.
