In 2014, Clinton Sutton, a 28-year-old described as kind, generous, and always cracking jokes, disappeared under mysterious circumstances in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Born in England and the oldest of four siblings, Sutton lived with his mother but had been struggling with heavy drinking, ultimately leading to his unexplained disappearance. Despite extensive efforts by law enforcement and his family, the case remains unsolved, leaving loved ones desperate for answers and any potential new leads.
The Disappearance
On November 6, 2014, following an argument with his mother about his drinking, Clinton’s stepfather dropped him and a friend off at a motel off of South Nevada Avenue. The specific motel is uncertain, but it was either the Sun Springs Motel or the Chateau Motel. It’s known that Clinton had no wallet or identification with him, intending to call his family the next day. Later that evening, Clinton contacted his mother, expressing concerns about his safety due to some new acquaintances he had made. His mother advised him to call again in the morning. Unfortunately, that was the last time Clinton’s family heard from him.
The Investigation
In the aftermath of Clinton’s disappearance, his family undertook exhaustive efforts to locate him. Missing person posters were distributed, only to face the unsettling challenge of someone repeatedly tearing them down. Suspicion further mounted when, two months later, a letter arrived from the Social Security office, indicating someone had used Clinton’s Social Security number to apply for federal benefits.
Concurrently, Clinton’s sister received a call from the Social Security office identifying her as the primary contact on the application. Additionally, there were reports of someone using Clinton’s name to check into a homeless shelter on Bijou Street in January 2015, but it was unclear if it was truly Clinton.
The Case Today
As of today, Clinton Sutton’s case is classified as a cold case by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, and his disappearance is considered suspicious due to the prolonged period of no contact and the use of his Social Security number. The family’s DNA is in the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs), and investigators have conducted multiple searches and interviews, but to no avail.
Despite the lack of progress, Clinton’s family continues to cling to hope, urging anyone with information to come forward. His mother, Victoria Jamerson, remains vocal, distributing flyers and making public appeals for new leads. The Colorado Springs Police Department continues their commitment to resolving cold cases, keeping Clinton’s case an active pursuit for answers.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Colorado Springs Police Department at (719) 444-7000 or provide anonymous tips to Pikes Peak Crime Stoppers at (719) 634-7867.
